Alaska, Beautiful, But COLD In The Winter

This is Alaska, isn't it beautiful. If you plan your vacation sometime between May and September, you can get a break on lodging. But you have to prepare yourself. Alaska not only demands a spirit of adventure and enthusiasm, it also requires binoculars and industrial-strength bug spray. No kidding, there's a reason the mosquito is often referred to as the "Alaska state bird." While you're there, make sure you take advantage of the backpacker shuttles which ferry budget travelers between major centers. This is an experience. Although most hotels drop their prices by as much as half in the winter, it's a little too cold for me personally. However, more and more travelers are taking advantage of this price break, especially those interested in experiencing the dazzling aurora borealis .
